London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony

For the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games we went down to the beach to watch it on the big screens down there :)

There were a lot of people on the beach sitting on the sand to watch the opening ceremony, it was a nice atmosphere, and although there were loads of people it didn’t really feel crowded.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the opening show…..sheep spring to mind though ^_^;

So I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was, and really enjoyed the show ^^

It was nicely varied, and had some great British (no pun intended :P) music throughout, with some stand out moments being James Bond and the Queen “parachuting” into the stadium, and Mr Bean’s Chariots of Fire segment ^^

On the beach, everyone stood up for the national anthem, and laughed out loud at Mr Bean, it was fun :)

As the athlete’s parade started, there were fireworks launched from out in the bay, but after that people started leaving the beach.

It was getting a bit cold, and we both needed the toilet, so we left about half way through the athlete’s parade too ^_^;

We got back home in time to see the rest of the ceremony though; from Team GB coming out and the cauldron being lit by a new generation of potential Olympic athletes….which I thought was a really nice idea :)

The fireworks in London at the end looked great, but unfortunately Paul McCartney’s singing was quite off and ruined it a little…….he was a great singer before, but his voice is not what it used to be, which is a shame. He’s still a musical / British icon, but perhaps he should just stick to playing instruments and have someone else sing the songs now ^_^

Altogether I think it was a very successful show, and good luck to Team GB in the games, and of course the team from Japan too (for Y’) ^-^

    It was good. I was disapointed at the lack of musical variety, and slightly more disapointed that the Teletubbies didn’t emerge from the green hill armed with AK’s, but apart from that it was really good.
