Max Gate

Max Gate is a house in Dorchester which was designed by, and lived in by, the writer Thomas Hardy from 1885 until his death in 1928. It has been in the care of the National Trust since 1940.

Thomas Hardy trained as an Architect before he was known as a writer, so Max Gate is just one of many buildings designed by him, but this one was design specifically for his own use.

The house is large, but still of a reasonable size so it’s easy to imagine being able to comfortably live there :)

All 3 floors of the house are open, and it is enclosed by a garden which you can also walk around.

It feels like it would be a very nice house to live in, and it is very interesting to look around it ^^
