Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway

The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway is a shortish (3.2 mile) heritage railway which runs along the shoreline of Lake Windermere in Cumbria :)

The line runs between Haverthwaite (where the main visitor cafe and shop are) and Lakeside (where the Lakes Aquarium is)….it’s very much a tourist/enthusiast line where you can just enjoy a ride on the steam train as it travels slowly along the route between the 2 stations and back.

There are a few different types of vintage carriage which you can ride in; we rode one way in a standard passenger car, but coming back we discovered an empty private compartment which we were lucky enough to have all to ourselves, which was fun ^^

At the Haverthwaite station you can also go inside the engine shed where they store a variety of train engines, which you can look at up close :)
